Thomas Merritt enjoyed a successful debut in the BRSCC Fiesta Junior Championship at Brands Hatch.

The 14-year-old, from Kings Hill, finished in the top five in all three races on the Indy Circuit. Merritt, who is competing with Race Car Consultants in the Mk7 class, twice finished fourth before securing fifth in the final race of the weekend. He also achieved the fastest lap in class in race three.

“It’s been a fantastic weekend,” said Merritt, who qualified fourth after stepping up from kart racing.

“There was plenty of close, hard-fought racing and I loved every second of competing at Brands. I went into the weekend hoping to finish well and am over the moon with what we’ve achieved.

“I’d like to say a huge thankyou to Race Car Consultants, who gave me a great car, and to all my family, friends, sponsors, and partners who supported me this weekend.”

Merritt was joined at Brands Hatch by Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex. They’ve recently announced a new collaboration with the teenager to raise awareness of the dangers of speeding on public roads and hope to promote safer driving.

Merritt’s new sponsors, The Event Safety Company Ltd, were also in attendance.

Their director, Tony Watts, said: “We’re excited to be working with Thomas and believe he’s a really talented young driver.

“We look forward to supporting him this season, and seeing what he can achieve in the Fiesta Junior Championship.” The next event in the BRSCC Fiesta Junior Championship will take place at Snetterton on May 18-19.
