‘No one could get in or out’

-

Customers of shops on the retail park were caught up in the drama as they were unable to leave for up to four hours.

Valle Zaragoza, manager of Family Bargains, said one of her employees had heard the screech of car brakes.

“The air ambulance landed outside our shop and people were watching what was happening,” she said. “It was a very bad situation. Customers could not get to us and could not leave either.

“Saturday afternoons are our busiest time because a lot of families come in, but we were down by around 300 customers.

“Sainsbury’s car park was absolutely stuck. No one could get in or out.”

A Sainsbury’s spokesman said: “There was a delay for customers leaving the car park.”

An employee at Staples said: “It did have a big effect on us.”
