Proud Jamie is cadet of the year
An Ashford teenager has been named St John Ambulance District Cadet of the Year.
Jamie White, a pupil at Norton Knatchbull School, beat off stiff competition to scoop the title at a competition before Christmas.
The 15-year-old will now represent fellow cadets from Kent and east Sussex throughout this year at public and St John Ambulance events.
Jamie, who joined the St John Ambulance Ashford Combined Unit nearly four years ago to learn first aid, said: “I am very proud to be a member. It’s built my confidence. Knowing I have the ability to save someone’s life is a very nice feeling.”
The competition to find the district’s most outstanding cadet saw Jamie complete a first aid challenge to demonstrate his life-saving abilities, take part in a debate and drill, give a presentation and be interviewed by judges.
Jamie now goes on to compete for the title of overall South East Regional Cadet of the Year and National Cadet of the Year in April this year.
Ann Maycock, District Youth Leader, said: “Jamie was an excellent candidate who performed extremely well in the competition, and he is a great role model to the younger cadets in the organisation.”
