ASHFORD SATURDAY LEAGUE: ROLVENDEN MAKE NO MISTAKE WITH EMPHATIC VICTORY IN THE LEAGUE CUP

-

Wayne Beaney, Tom Winder and Tim Sims all scored twice as Rolvenden made home advantage count beating Woolpack 8-0 in the first round of the League Cup. Groundsmen Steve and Andy Bryant’s hard work made sure the game went ahead at Gatefield after the venue was switched. Culley Sayer’s penalty put Rolvenden ahead and Tim Sims made it 2-0 by half-time. Beaney and Winder extended the lead in the second half, with Taylor and Sims adding two more in a game in which referee Glen Childs won praise. Top scorer Ryan Prior hit the winner as Bromley Green 3rds won 2-1 at Riverside. Ollie Perkins fired the visitors in front before Green were forced to reshuffle after Robbie Richardson went off injured. Sloppy defending allowed Riverside back in the game in the second half and Green missed several chances to regain the lead. However, Prior settled the tie, following good play down the left, with Tom Moon named man-of-the-match. Josh Beeching had a part to play in all three goals as Lydd United beat village rivals Town A 3-2. Beeching’s corner set-up Shannon Hodson’s opener for a 1-0 half-time lead before he added the second himself after the break. Poor United defending gifted the A side a way back with Adam Herrington getting both. Another Beeching assist led to the winner, Lee Gosbee heading in his free-kick for the winner, with referee Rick Howlett another official to earn praise for his display. Skipper Mark Lawrence scored twice as Willesborough Athletic emerged 3-1 winners over Tenterden Town at Recreation Ground Road. A mistake by goalkeeper Matt King gifted Tenterden an early lead, which they held until half-time. Lawrence levelled, scoring direct from a corner, before Luke Walder added the second, converting Ryan Fitzgerald’s set-up. Lawrence then got the third from another set-piece, striking a free-kick into the bottom right-hand corner.
