Revamp work will close post office for six weeks
Ashford Post Office will close for more than a month while the building is modernised.
Customers wishing to send parcels during that time can do so at a temporary post office being set up in the town’s Vicarage Lane car park.
The main branch will close for repairs at 5.30pm on Saturday, September 20, and is expected to reopen about six weeks later.
The temporary service will be up and running at 9am on Monday, September 22, and will have the same opening hours as the actual post office – 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Saturday, apart from Tuesday, when it opens at 9.30am.
The only services that won’t be available at the temporary location are the cash machine and digital application services.
When the post office in Tufton Street re-opens in November, customers will see three self-service kiosks, open-plan counters and a private consultation room for financial services.
Maintenance work will be carried out while the building is shut, and the interior will be given a modern facelift.
Post Office regional general manager Andrew Thompson said: “We understand how important Post Office services are and we are confident the new-look, modern Ashford post office will meet the needs of the people and businesses in the area.
“This modernisation programme is ensuring customers are served in a more modern retail space, and the changes mean increased convenience and greater service options.
“The dedicated mails counter means customers sending multiple packages or letters can drop these off quickly, while our new selfservice kiosks offer an expanded range of services and products.”
Ashford is one of 2,500 post offices being modernised in a multi-million pound programme.
