Camier misses out on points

-

Leon Camier finished just out of the points on his home Moto GP debut at Silverstone on Sunday.

The 28-year-old Ashford-born rider was making his third successive appearance for the Drive M7 Aspar team, as replacement for injured Nicky Hayden, sidelined with a wrist injury. Camier won his maiden point, after finishing 15th last time out at Brno in the Czech Republic, a fortnight ago.

He had to settle for 16th this time, finishing 6.5 seconds behind Alex de Angelis, with Aspar team-mate Hiroshi Aoyama, just ahead of him.

Camier improved three places on the opening lap, but speaking to Crash.net website, he said: “I think we could have done more.

“As soon as I went out, I felt that something was wrong with the brakes.

“They didn’t slow me down like they normally do and I nearly ran off the track on the warm-up lap,”

“I got a good start and made some good passes but I soon knew something definitely wasn’t right with the brakes. I kept running deep and couldn’t brake as I wanted.”

He added: “I couldn’t show my best, which was disappointing. I feel like I’m not riding like I can.

“Not confident. I can’t get off on the gas and roll out of the turn like I want to.

“I was trying to ride as best I could but we are missing something.

“We need testing and to change something drastically on the bike to make it work better.”
