Selfless Chase loses half her hair in charity chop

- By Samantha Williams

A little girl has said goodbye to half a head of hair in aid of a charity that makes wigs for sick children.

Nine-year-old Chase Brackley faced the chop last week at a salon in Canterbury.

Before the cut, Chase, from Kennington, boasted a strong 31 inches of brown hair.

But the trim saw her lose 15 inches from her locks, and the pupil at Lady Joanna Thornhill Primary School in Wye now has a layered, shorter style.

Mum Joanna Brackley said: “I’m feeling very proud. It was quite a big thing for her to do.

“The most she has ever had cut off before was three inches.

“She had it cut at The Barn Hair and Beauty in Canterbury, who cut it for free, which was lovely of them.

“She is loving her new style. It looks curlier now it’s shorter.”

Chase, a keen swimmer and horse rider, decided to shorten her tresses in aid of The Princess Trust, who provide real-hair wigs to boys and girls across the country that have lost their own hair through cancer treatment.

Mrs Brackley, who is also mum to Paige, six, and Lucas, two, said: “Chase’s Nan told her about another girl who had her hair cut after her friend got cancer, and Chase thought it was a lovely idea.”

So far, Chase has collected around £250 and will donate this to the Trust, along with her 15 inches of shorn hair.
