Unique heritage but better use of funding is needed

Vanessa Savia, owner of independent shop Savia in Ashford High Street, wants to see better management throughout the town

What is the best thing about the town? The position of the town – it is near Europe, the beach, the countryside and London. What would you say to a visitor to encourage them to come to Ashford? Visit the surrounding countryside. It is beautiful. What are your favourite shops, bars and restaurants in Ashford? Most independent shops but sadly they are closing and are now few and far between. What is the best tourist attraction in the town? The museum is lovely and run by volunteers who are so dedicated. Where is your one favourite place in Ashford? Wye Downs – the view is incredible. What makes Ashford stand out from other towns? It is easy to travel to other places. It also has a unique heritage but this isn’t utilised. The population has grown and the amenities aren’t being updated. Ashford is more multicultural now and I embrace that. What needs improving in the town? There needs to be more independence in County Square and better management. More funds need to be going to better uses. Could you see yourself living in Ashford for the rest of your life? Probably not, somewhere like Rye seems tempting. Do you feel proud to live in Ashford? I was born here but I do not feel proud at the moment. Hopefully, I will if there is better management.
