Kennington off to flier
NRG Kent County League
Kennington made a flying start to the season with a 3-0 victory at Deal Community Sports in Division 1 East. They scored twice in the opening 16 minutes through Ross Lawrie and Scott Bradle and then Mark O’Gormley wrapped up the points with a third goal in the second half. In contrast, there was virtually no way back for Tenterden after they conceded three goals against South Darenth in the first 10 minutes of their opening game in Division 2 East. Tenterden, however, did produce some good spells of football during the game and were rewarded when George Hayes pulled a goal back following good work by Lewis Weston. In the Ashford Charity Trophy, Bromley Green won 2-0 at Chilham, thanks to goals from Joe Kalungiadi and Emmanuel Awuni. all three points.
Division 3 title favourites Ashford Cavaliers lead the way after they hammered Ashford Spartans 10-0.
Matt Moon scored a hat-trick for the second successive weekend and strike partner Dan Reynolds also scored three.
Kieran Hawkins scored twice for the Great Chart side while further goals from Craig Lewis and Luke Hughes sealed a fine victory.
There was another goal fest at The Ridge as Aldington Reserves won 6-5. Aldington’s scorers were Kevin Ruane (2), Simon McCombe, Shane Read, Sam Darby and Matt Beesley, with Lolzors replying through Matt Wright (2), Ashley Slingsby (2) and James Standen.
Stour Valley hit seven past bottom-of-the-table Park Farm Rangers, with striker Joe Burdon leading the way with four goals. Ashford GC member David Bible won the Kent Golf Union Oscar Ash Cups Championship at Littlestone GC. The event attracted 67 players from across the county with handicaps between 3–12 and Bible finished in front of Ashford club colleague Stuart Biden. Biden fired a superb round of 73 gross in the morning, with Bible one shot behind him. In the afternoon, however, the tables turned and Bible’s 77 gross was enough to pip Biden (78) on countback. Littlestone Warren GC ladies’ section held an Invitation Day, hosted by Lady Captain Barbara Down and 20 members and 20 guests took part. The winners were Janice Wickens (Littlestone Warren) and Corrie Butcher (Ashford), with Gill Nunn (Littlestone Warren) and Julie Fowle (Tenterden) finishing runners-up and Sue Egerton-Jones (Littlestone Warren) and Pat McCarty (Littlestone) in third.
