‘Plebgate’ MP at dinner
Andrew Mitchell was the guest of honour at the Ashford Conservative constituency’s annual dinner.
The event on Friday, October 24, at Chart Hills Golf Club in Biddenden was attended by 127 people.
Mr Mitchell, the Conservative MP for Sutton Coldfield, was in the national limelight a couple of years ago over the so-called Plebgate affair.
Mr Mitchell, the government chief whip at the time, was at the centre of a major row between him and police at the security gate entrance to Downing Street in September 2012 in which he was accused of calling police officers “plebs” – an accusation he denied.
Mr Mitchell resigned but later evidence appeared to call into question some of the claims against him.
