Kettle starts bedroom blaze

An Ashford woman was taken to hospital after a fire in her spare bedroom. The woman, in her 40s, was woken up by a loud bang caused by a kettle left to boil dry in Lynsted Close, Stanhope at 8pm last Wednesday. The blaze was already out when crews arrived but they used a thermal imaging camera to ensure it was safe. The woman was treated for smoke inhalation but is believed to be fine.
