Tilston brings his magical ‘men in a boat’ to St Mary’s

A musician described as one of the English acoustic scene’s favourite guitarists, singers, songwriters and entertainers will perform at Revelation St Mary’s.
Award-winning Steve Tilston, widely recognised within the world of folk and contemporary music, will be promoting his new record Happenstance at the Ashford parish church venue next weekend.
He will appear as the Steve Tilston Trio with Bristol music scene stalwarts and old pals, harmonica maestro and ex-radio Bristol DJ Keith Warmington and David Crickmore of the Durbervilles and BBC Radio Leeds.
Crickmore has joined the trio following the death of violinist Stuart Gordon.
Revelation St Mary’s Karen Trimmings said: “Steve Tilston is one of our most celebrated song-smiths; the words, arrangements and subtle, quite superb guitar playing could be no one else.”
Tilston has appeared on Later With Jools Holland and BBC Four’s Songwriters’ Circle and won Best Original Song at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2012.
Previous songs have included The Slipjigs and Reels, The Naked Highwayman, A Pretty Penny and The Reckoning.
Ms Trimmings added: “Perhaps best known for his song-writing prowess, Steve is also a blinding, dazzling guitarist.
“He also draws from folk, blues and roots music to create a sound that has been called quintessentially Tilston.”
Speaking about the line-up, Tilston said: “There’s more than a bit of magic when we get together. It’s a musical equivalent of ‘three men in a boat’ and hopefully we make a bit of a splash!”
The Steve Tilston Trio perform at Revelation St Mary’s, Churchyard, Ashford, on Saturday, November 15.
Doors open at 7pm for a 7.45pm start and the gig ends at 10.30pm.
Adult tickets cost £10 in advance or £12 on the door with under 16s paying £6 or £8.
