I want to know how efficient recycling is

-

I was most impressed with the amount of material going through the new plant for recycling.

I would however have liked to have seen figures alongside these giving the projected income from these saleable materials.

At the time of issue of the bins my contact with the paper was of a slightly comic nature, not critical, my real concern at the time was the cost when the country was in financial difficulty.

So many people were being squeezed, cash was so short and we were buying bins. It did not seem to me the right time.

I am aware of the EU directive regarding recycling. I am equally aware that were it not for the government restraint order on council tax, mine would be much higher to pay for this venture.

I do however believe strongly in recycling. It is quite wrong to take raw materials from the earth and return the manufactured article to a hole in the ground a few years later.

Congratulations on the new waste plant but this excellent processing plant would have been almost as productive with black sacks at a greatly reduced cost.

Perhaps at the end of the first year of this new system you might give some figures on the cost of collection and cash returns of the materials sold.

I do of course realise that this whole project is about conservation. I know it can never make a profit, I don’t expect a profit just efficiency. So far so good! Cecil Horn, Kennington at the surgery’s reception.

The patient group is not there to take complaints, there is a dedicated procedure for that, but matters such as stated should be brought to the awareness of the group.

I am eager that the patients’ voice should be listened to. For general information the APPG meet on a bi-monthly basis at the Civic Centre and they are open to the public.

I would like to take this opportunity to encourage Residents/Patients to attend these, our next meeting is on Thursday, November 20, at 6.30pm. Caroline Harris, Ashford
