Beauty parlour takes tattoo-hygiene lead
An Ashford studio that specialises in semi-permanent make-up has made its mark on a tattoo hygiene scheme.
JayneSpa and Academy is the first such studio to join the new Tattoo Hygiene Rating Scheme (THRS) that has been rolled out by the council.
The company, in Godinton Road, has been inspected by Ashford Borough Council (ABC) environmental health officers and received the highest possible hygiene rating – four stars.
Jayne Connelly, owner of the business, said: “I’m delighted to be in the scheme and very pleased to have achieved the highest award available.
“I would recommend other establishments to sign up because it is a great way to show how clean and hygienic your premises are, which is an excellent incentive for customers.
“This will also help to inspire my students to work towards high standards in their work.”
THRS is a free, voluntary scheme launched in Ashford and across Kent and Medway, that scores tattoo and semi-permanent make-up practitioners on their hygiene standards.
The Chartered Institute of Environmental Health scheme aims to reduce the number of illegal, unsafe and unhygienic tattooists, known as scratchers.
Christopher Davis, environmental health officer at ABC, said: “We hope the THRS will give potential customers the confidence that practitioners’ operations are clean and safe.”
