Football friends play in memory of crash victim
Twenty-two teams battled it out for the winner’s cup at a football tournament held in memory of crash victim Danny Hall.
After a hard-fought battle the final was between AFC Locomotive and underdogs Almighty Average.
After a 2-0 victory, the Locomotives, consisting of Ben Stevens, Liam Whiting, Hayden Slade, Robbie Greenfield, Luke Walder, Jack Pereira and Tom Scorer, were announced the winners.
The team presented the trophy to Michelle and Brian Hall, the parents of postman Danny Hall, who died in July with his friend Josh Robinson.
The pair, both from Park Farm, were taking part in The Great European Rally when their car fell more than a 1,000 feet from a mountain road in Austria.
The tournament on Sunday, called Danny Hall’s six-a-side football tournament and #LovingLife fundraiser, was held at the Ashford Hockey Club, in Ball Lane, Kennington.
It was organised by Danny’s friends Lee Fishlock, Chris and Jessica Bullock, Jodie Blythe, Billie Macken, Loren Freeland, Michael Rose and Caroline Richardson, and was attended by about 300 people.
The day raised about £2,000, including £1,100 from the raffle, and a further £300 from a silent auction.
This will go towards’s Danny’s headstone on his grave, which is at St Michael & All Angels’ Church in Kingsnorth
Mr Fishlock, who went to school with Danny, said: “The day was fantastic. It was a huge turnout.
“A star named in memory of Danny was presented to his parents, and then later that night some people said they saw a shooting star.”
Mr Hall said: “We were presented with a certificate for a star named after Danny. It has the location so we can look it up. It was a lovely touch.
“A Danny Hall Foundation is also in the process of being set up. The goal is that it will support local amateur football teams, which were Danny’s passion.”
Money is also being raised for a memorial bench for Danny at The John Wallis Academy, in Stanhope, where he went when it was still Christ Church Secondary School. To donate go to, www.gofundme.com/3h2zzudw
