-

A former Norton Knatchbull School pupil has captained his team to victory in the first round of BBC’s University Challenge.

Thomas Hitchcock is currently studying natural sciences in his final year at Sidney Sussex College in Cambridge.

His team took on King’s College Cambridge in the first round of the compe- tition, which was broadcast on Monday this week. He led his teammates through to the second round with a resounding victory by 195 points to 60.

However, it was opponent Kamil Shah who grabbed the headlines, causing a stir on social media after donning a vest and gold chain on the programme, which is better known for conservative cardigans.
