Quiz win­ner up­staged by vest-wear­ing ri­val

A for­mer Nor­ton Knatch­bull School pupil has cap­tained his team to vic­tory in the first round of BBC’s Univer­sity Chal­lenge.

Thomas Hitch­cock is cur­rently study­ing nat­u­ral sciences in his fi­nal year at Sid­ney Sus­sex Col­lege in Cam­bridge.

His team took on King’s Col­lege Cam­bridge in the first round of the compe- tition, which was broad­cast on Mon­day this week. He led his team­mates through to the sec­ond round with a re­sound­ing vic­tory by 195 points to 60.

How­ever, it was op­po­nent Kamil Shah who grabbed the head­lines, caus­ing a stir on so­cial media af­ter don­ning a vest and gold chain on the pro­gramme, which is bet­ter known for con­ser­va­tive cardi­gans.
