Bee­keep­ers win golden prizes

Up to 300 peo­ple turned up at a bee­keep­ers’ an­nual show.

The Ash­ford Bee­keep­ing As­so­ci­a­tion held its an­nual honey show and bee­keep­ing ex­hi­bi­tion at Ald­ing­ton Vil­lage Hall on Satur­day .

Top prizewin­ner was for­mer chair­man Trevor Atkins who won two awards, one for best in show and the other for high­est points in the show, for prod­ucts such as mead, which is al­co­hol made from honey.

Other win­ners in­cluded Roland Thomas who got a first prize for his pro­duc­ers’ class honey.

As­so­ci­a­tion chair­man Navin Nauth-Misir won two tro­phies, one for light honey and the other for hive equip­ment.

Polly Bon­ner, nine, won in the chil­dren’s sec­tion for her card­board hive model.

Ash­ford Deputy Mayor Ge­orge Koowa­ree , ac­com- panied by Deputy May­oress Glo­ria Cham­pion, opened the show and pre­sented the prizes.
