Beekeepers win golden prizes

Up to 300 people turned up at a beekeepers’ annual show.

The Ashford Beekeeping Associatio­n held its annual honey show and beekeeping exhibition at Aldington Village Hall on Saturday .

Top prizewinne­r was former chairman Trevor Atkins who won two awards, one for best in show and the other for highest points in the show, for products such as mead, which is alcohol made from honey.

Other winners included Roland Thomas who got a first prize for his producers’ class honey.

Associatio­n chairman Navin Nauth-Misir won two trophies, one for light honey and the other for hive equipment.

Polly Bonner, nine, won in the children’s section for her cardboard hive model.

Ashford Deputy Mayor George Koowaree , accom- panied by Deputy Mayoress Gloria Champion, opened the show and presented the prizes.
