Smith se­cures mem­o­rable hat-trick

Keith Smith lifted the men’s sin­gles ti­tle at Ash­ford Rail BC, beat­ing Alan Aldridge 21-14 dur­ing the club’s an­nual fi­nals day on Sun­day.

He also claimed the men’s two wood cour­tesy of a 16-8 suc­cess over Chris Knapp and the mixed pairs part­ner­ing Ash­leigh Min­ter to a 21-12 vic­tory overAmy El­lis-In­gle­ton and Carl Ak­ers.

Smith also made the fi­nal of the men’s hand­i­cap but went down 27-22 to Thomas Fair­man, who teamed-up with Clive Allen to beat Dennis Gibbs and Tony For­tune 25-8 in the men’s pairs.

Chris Lock won the ladies’ yard­stick, over­com­ing Mary For­tune 31-26 but she was beaten 18-11 by Mo Hayes in the ladies’ two wood.

Ash­leigh Min­ter, Char­lie Hold­away and skip Sean Farmer beat Amy El­lisIn­gle­ton, Steve Miles and skip Gor­don Sam­son 21-14 in the club triples, while Chris Knapp beat Steve Miles 34-29 in the club yard­stick and the Ju­nior Cham­pi­onship was won by Lewis Min­ter, who saw off Cul­lam Fraser 21-12.

Trudy Paine won the ladies’ hand­i­cap with a 27-20 win over beat Mary For­tune.

Rail played five mixed triples at Wear Bay on Satur­day and won 114-91, led by Thomas Fair­man (lead), Paul Hunter and skip Jenny Farmer (29-12), who had the high­est-scor­ing rink.
