Injury mars team’s league return

Ashford Saturday League

-

Wittersham’s return to Saturday League football was marred by an injury to midfielder James Padgham, who suffered a double broken leg.

The game against Bromley Green was abandoned with 15 minutes left when the teams were level at 2-2.

Simon Walters grabbed a hat-trick as Rolvenden Reserves won 8-2 at Biddenden. Nick Stickels, playermanager Dennis Ongei, Wale Olaniran and Rob Andrews completed the tally. Biddenden scored through Nick Wallwork and an own goal.

Ryan Lymn netted four times as Aldington hit eight without reply against Lydd Town A. Ryan Carter’s hat-trick helped Tenterden Town to a 5-0 home win over Smarden. Gary Penfold and Ryan Vaughan added the other goals. Town are running with one team this season, after quitting the NRG GYM Kent County League early last month. Secretary Stuart Saunders said: “We lost our manager Gary Penfold Snr due to his work patterns changing and several players left to step up a level so we took the decision to pull out.”

Club chairman Nick Hall is in charge of the side and Mr Saunders added: “We aim to take stock with the hope of returning in a couple of years. We are looking to get some decent results and build a bit of momentum this season.”

Dan Taylor and Tony Irish scored two goals each as Three Mariners won 6-1 at Park Farm Rangers.

Guy Cloake got both for Smeeth & Brabourne in their 2-2 draw against Willesborough Athletic Reserves. Kieran Hawkes and Ryan Fitzgerald netted for Willes.
