Crossing query as post office moves

Promise to tackle traffic issues for customers

-

A post office in Ashford will receive a makeover when it relocates.

North Willesborough Post Office, in Albemarle Road, will move half a mile away into the Cradlebridge Premier Store, in Cradlebridge Drive, Willesborough, in November.

The new branch will be known as Cradlebridge Drive Post Office, and will be open an additional 42 hours a week, including all day Sunday.

It will open as a ‘local’ style branch, and products will be available from a low-screened till at the shop counter instead of from a separate screened counter.

The move was prompted after the postmaster’s resignation and the planned withdrawal of the premises in Albemarle Road from Post Office use.

During the consultation about the move, some concerns were raised regarding traffic issues on the walk between the branch and the new one.

The Post Office says, however, that it is consulting Ashford Borough Council and Highways England to see if a pedestrian controlled crossing could be provided on the route.

Regional manager Julia Marwood said: “We understand how important having a post office is to residents in North Willesborough and we are confident this new, modern post office service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.” The Albemarle Road branch will close on Tues- day, November 3 at 1pm, and the new store will open on Wednesday, November 4 at 1pm.

Services will be provided throughout the shop’s opening hours, which are Monday to Saturday 7am-8pm and Sunday 8am to 6pm.
