My Lidl PHONY!
Pony in the supermarket aisles is revealed as a prank
A YouTube video has emerged showing a My Lidl Pony stunt was the work of online pranksters.
Last week, the Kentish Express reported that shoppers in Lidl, Ashford, were shocked to spot a pony being led round the supermarket by a man who appeared to be blind.
A suspicious resident delivered a photo of the spectacle to the newsdesk and said he thought it was a joke – and it turns out he was right.
The full video was uploaded to a YouTube channel called Trollstation, which hosts a series of tongue-in-cheek short films.
The Lidl Pony Prank, which has attracted nearly 120,000 views, shows a small horse dressed in a high-viz jacket being led around the store by a man, appearing to blind.
He loudly announces to passers-by that is he is shopping for “dog food” for his “aide”.
When the security guard points out that he’s leading a horse, the man, in a mock-Irish accent, replied: “Oh no, I’ve done it again, I thought I brought the dog.”
The four-minute video was covertly filmed by a fellow prankster who captured the bemused expressions of shoppers.
When the ‘blind’ man and his pony leave the shop, the cameraman is heard asking a puzzled onlooker if she thinks the man was really blind.
Clearly shocked, the girl asks if it was really a “proper” horse, to which the cameraman replies “it’s a my Lidl Pony.”
Trollstation, where videos get millions of view, appears to be run by a collaboration of numerous British pranksters from around the country.
It claims to create content which is “intentionally provocative and controversial with the aim to offend and harass the general public in the name of comedic satire.”
Lidl declined to comment on the incident.
