Buzzing Lye ready for big Borough test

Player-boss Danny Lye wants ‘buzzing’ Ashford to take the momentum from their first home win of the season into Saturday’s clash with Greenwich Borough.

United head to Dartford’s Princes Park to take on a side tipped as one of their title rivals in the Southern Counties East League having enjoyed victory on their new Homelands pitch for the first time on Tuesday with a thrilling 5-3 success against Deal Town.

Just three days after being held at home by a last-minute Corinthian goal, United saw a 1-0 lead wiped out by two goals in as many minutes.

However, Lye himself levelled seconds before half-time and Ryan Palmer and Shaun Welford completed doubles after the break to end a threegame winless run – all at home.

Lye said: “We were rubbish in the first half, we just couldn’t pass the ball. We were much better in the second half but the difference between that and our recent games is that we took our chances at the other end.

“I’d rather be a 1-0 manager than a 5-3 one but I was buzzing after a game like that.

“It was good to get that first home win and get the monkey off our back.” United will

Lye insisted: “They have Nathan and Stuart but we have no special plans for them, we will worry about ourselves and not about our opponents.

“Greenwich are a bit like us in that they have scored a few and conceded a few so it should be a good game. Them and ourselves are picked by people to be up there but neither of us are setting the pace at the moment. We are both playing catch-up.
