Gray fights back after non-finish

Roy Gray experienced lows and highs in the penultimate round of the Caterham Motorsport series at Oulton Park in Cheshire. He failed to finish the first race after damaging a radiator, but produced one of his best drives of the season, finishing 13th second time out. Gray, from Smarden, said: “The morning sessions were delayed due to fog but when we did get out on track I qualified 18th position in race one. “A good run into turns one and two got me up to about 12th, but when exiting Shell Oils hairpin, a slow car ahead caused me and the car in front to have a ‘little nudge’. “Unfortunately, damage to the radiator ended my race, and gave me my first non-finish of the season. “I was able to return to the pits to give Team Parker Racing time to replace the radiator and prepare the car for the second race.” Gray’s misfortune caused him to start 29th and last. He added: “As usual between races, I spent time with my driver coach Kieran Vernon, checking through data and video in preparation. Although I only managed one lap earlier in the day, the car set-up felt good, and I felt confident. “Another quick start and good early laps put me 19th by lap four. A good battle with fellow competitors meant it wasn’t going to be an easy race, but I was enjoying it and continued to work through the field making up places. “From lights out to the chequered flag I had a great time and I think it was one of my best races, finishing 13th.” Gray ends his season at Silverstone on Saturday and Sunday week (October 17/18).
