Silver fish help Short win gold at Surrenden

Ashford Angling Associatio­n Match group’s latest contest fished at Surrenden Lakes didn’t disappoint with some good returns of silver fish.

Bill Short (19lb 12oz) was the winner with Paul Bourne second (17lb 4oz) and Mark Sampson third (16lb 4oz).

Other freshwater events included the Cinque Ports of Hythe who fished their final round of the Mick’s Tackle series in the Royal Military Canal at Cannongate.

Catches were slow – Paul Musson of Dymchurch won with 1.760kg, mainly small silver fish caught on the pole.

Les Foster was second (1.300kg) and third, Neil West with 1.180. Paul Musson won the overall series title with 29points.

Radnor Park’s latest Sunday event was won by Steve Cummings with 51lb, a pound ahead of Pete Joiner with Russell Roberts in third with 45lb.

Cottington Lakes at Deal produced several big carp this week including two mirror of 37lb and 43lb for Tom Onslow, fishing in Lake Pepper and hooked on urban tuna and garlic boilies.

Another carp with more traditiona­l tastes was landed by Jason Browning which weighed in at 42lb and took an AT Baits boilies.

At sea, the Southern Circuit Sea Anglers fished their latest competitio­n at Dengemarsh and found the whiting in a feeding frenzy, Hythe’s Cieron Bull won with 54 fish for 18lb 8oz, Sam Collier was second with 17lb 2oz and third was Wesley Cheeseman with 17lb 6oz. Fourth was Dave Sales with 14lb 14oz and fifth Alan Jarrett with 12lb 12oz.

The Fountain Angling Club of Seabrook fished Princes Parade where Michael Warne of Hythe won with 7.29kg of mainly whiting. Martyn Swinyard was second (6.416kg) with Ray Smith third (5.116kg), Ceiron Bull fourth (4.1890kg) and Ronnie Warne fifth (3.894kg).

The Martin Walters Sea Anglers fished their latest evening competitio­n at Folkestone beach and a couple of codling showed amongst dogfish, pouting and whiting.

Winner was Shaun Carey (10lb 5oz), Danny Jago was second (9lb 13oz) and Jacon Gainey third (5lb 6oz).

The Dover Sea Angling Associatio­n three-day pier festival was fished from the Admiralty Pier at Dover. Day two finished with Nathan Elliott of Dover recording catches including bass, red mullet, wrasse, codling, dogfish, pouting and whiting – full results next week.
