Goals flow in second half

Ashford United under-18s

-

Seven of the goals came in the second half as Ashford United’s under-18s enjoyed an 8-0 victory over Croydon Athletic in the Ryman Youth League. The match, played at Croydon last Wednesday, was fast and physical from the off, but despite creating a host of openings, United had only one goal to show for their efforts before the break. That came from Callum Howland, who was in the right place at the right time to tap home after a shot from man-of-thematch Brandon Williams had been only been parried by the home keeper. Roles were reversed 10 minutes into the second half when Howland turned provider for Williams to make it 2-0 and that was the cue for the floodgates to open. Mitchell Barrett fired a low shot into the bottom corner on 58 minutes, and substitute Frank Godfrey’s first touch was to drill the ball into the Croydon net from a corner just after the hour. Fellow sub Charlie Sharp then delivered a pin-point ball for Howland to head his second in the 65th minute, and he completed his hat-trick, from the spot, 11 minutes from time. Howland grabbed individual goal No.4 on 81 minutes and the scoring was completed five minutes from time when Williams ran onto Tom Draper’s throughball to slot home.
