Crews swing into action to free teen

- By Sam Williams

A teenager needed rescuing after getting stuck in a child’s swing at a play park in Singleton.

The 17-year-old girl was in the playground at the junction with Singleton Hill and Tithe Barn Lane with friends when she realised she could not get out of the swing.

Fire crews were called to the playground at 11pm last Thurs- day, when temperatures were around three degrees.

Firefighters had to dismantle the swing in order to release the teen, who had been stuck for an hour.

Crews then put the equipment back together.

The girl was not believed to be hurt.

Watch manager Jim Smart said crews have received similar calls to this one in recent months.

He said: “We’ve had a few calls like this recently. It’s quite common.”
