Strength in numbers

-

Brainy pupils put their maths skills to the test in a competition held in Ashford.

Thirteen teams took part in The North School’s inaugural Inter-Secondary Mathematical Competition last Wednesday.

On the day, the Year 8 and 9 pupils took part in four rounds of challenges at the Essella Road, Ashford school.

In one round, they were pitted directly against each other in having to spot a sequence of numbers, while in another they had to take part in a relay around the school hall.

The Highworth ‘Beta’ team came first with 131 points, with their counterparts the ‘Alpha’ team finishing as runners-up with 108 points.

Maths teacher Nick Gilbert said: “The day was very successful. Competition was fierce but it proved yet again that maths can be fun.

“Indeed, there was only one or two points separating some teams.”
