MEP impressed during visit to community farm

-

A Kent MEP was impressed with the Wye Community Farm during his visit there last week.

Richard Ashworth, Conservative MEP for South East England and member of the European Parliament’s agriculture and budgets committee, toured the farm, viewed the livestock and explored the Brook Agricultural Museum last Thursday.

Several of the traditional crafts promoted by the farm were on display, such as felt making, spoon carving, leather work and an old bul- lock cart, which is being restored.

Mr Ashworth also joined a meeting of the farm team which looked at developing the micro businesses which are direct spin-offs from the farm itself, including Della Newman’s Spinning Earth.

The farm plans to bid for EU funding in the context of the LEADER programme for some of its micro businesses.

During the day, Mr Ashworth noted how many of the skills and businesses dovetail together with the farm at their hub.
