Re­searchers say in­tro­duc­ing a sugar tax on fizzy drinks and foods could help be­gin to curb adult and child obe­sity. Ac­cord­ing to Can­cer Re­search UK as many as 60% of adults in Ash­ford are ei­ther over­weight or obese, lead­ing to in­creased risk of can­cer, heart prob­lems and di­a­betes. The or­gan­i­sa­tion has called for a 20% sugar tax, and es­ti­mates it would stop 3.7 mil­lion peo­ple from be­com­ing over­weight or obese.
