Galacticos miss out on semi-final showdown
ASHFORD SUNDAY LEAGUE: ASHTONE DENIED CHANCE OF LAST-FOUR CLASH WITH WILLESBOROUGH RESERVES Kent Sun Junior Trophy Division 1 Division 2
Ashstone Galacticos went out at the quarter-final stage, losing 4-2 to AFC Westgate United at Charing Heath.
The game went ahead at the third time of asking after the recent wet weather but Galacticos were denied the chance of an all-Ashford League semi-final against Willesborough Reserves in two weeks’ time.
Sam Wilson scored twice for Galacticos who can now concentrate on their Division 3 promotion bid. Leaders Willesborough Athletic beat Iden Park 9-4 to stretch their lead to 17 points at the top.
Luke Burdon scored five times for the Millers, all coming in the secondhalf, to take his goal tally to 48 in all competitions
Iden led 1-0 at half-time and took the lead after only seven seconds through Ben Heffernan.
But Willesborough scored three times in the opening seven minutes of the second-half to take control with Burdon (2) and Matt Moon’s header putting them 3-1 ahead.
Iden pegged the hosts back, first through midfielder Steve Lee’s tapin, before Heffernan levelled again at 3-3 .
Willesborough then scored four times in 12 minutes to race 7-3 ahead – Burdon and Moon both with two more each to complete their hattricks – before an own-goal saw Iden reply.
Two more late goals in the final 10 minutes for Willesborough from Matt and Luke Burdon wrapped up the scoring. Justin Howard scored the only goal as Lolzors moved within a point of leaders Prince Albert with a 1-0 away win at bottom of the table Ashford Cavaliers.
Willesborough Reserves held 2-2 by Fox Sunday 2-2. Ashley Slingsby and Kieran Hawkins were on target for the Millers, only for Tom Wilmshurst and Jaime Steele to reply for Fox.
