Helen Weedon establishe­d a record for the longest distance completed by an Ashford & District Road Running Club female athlete on Saturday.

She made the long trip north to compete in the Wall Ultra a rewarding one, covering the 69-mile multi-terrain Hadrian’s Wall route in 19 hours, 19 minutes, 11 seconds.

A total of 800 starters set out from Carlisle early on Saturday morning, with Weedon finishing 412th out of 529 finishers, 60th woman home, and 21st in the vet 40 category.

Another Road Running Club member, Eddie Rodger, took 82 minutes off his previous best time for the event to finish in 16:28.46, 247th overall, 212th male, and 23rd in the vet 50 category.

Jon Pearce won the Podplus Ashford 10k at Victoria Park on Friday.

The Ashford Tri Club runner came home in 36 minutes 13 seconds, just ahead of runnerup Lee Rogers (Invicta East East) with Chung Yam Hung third (37.22).

Ashford & District Road Running Club’s Dan Green was fourth and first vet 40 male home (37.34) with Tri Club pair Trevor Kay (38.33) and Mark Peacock (38.58) completing the top six.

RRC’s Gill Pragnell was 10th, second woman and first vet-45 female (44.24), with Victoria Pragnell fourth in 47.23.

RRC enjoyed a successful night in the 5k event, with Robert Carpenter finishing runner-up and first vet 40 male (19.38), behind race winner Gavin Mackay (17.49), with Connor Samson (Hamstreet Runners) third and first junior (19.57).

Paul Moses was fourth and first vet-50 male finisher in 20.12, 40 seconds ahead of Benjamin Smith (Ashford AC) with another Hamstreet runner Paul Noakes (21.02) sixth.

Ashford & District RRC’s Gill O’Connor was eighth, first lady and first vet-45 in a time of 21.32, with Stephen Tickner (Hamstreet) completing the top 10 in 22.18.

Other club highlights saw Danyel Giles run another personal best to finish -– second lady home in 22.33, with Christine Costiff close behind in third place (23.10).

Stu Nunn also recorded a PB, finishing 15th in 23.46, while Andrew Smith was 21st (26.05) and Jule Foster 27th (27.55).
