We continue the fight for a fairer society

-

Ashford Labour Party was astonished by the comments in last week’s Kentish Express, so remote was the article (I Can’t Continue While Corbyn Is Labour Leader) from reality.

Cllr Jill Britcher has indeed resigned. She is moving to Thanet and we are sorry to lose her from Ashford and the Labour Party.

Gordon Miller has not been active for some considerable time. Those of us who continue the fight for a fairer and more just society find with pleasure that we are members of a local party where people of all ages are capable of civilised discussion and the capacity to disagree without personal acrimony.

We had, for example, a stimulating debate on the Trident issue and on the EU Referendum.

I join with our Labour councillors at borough and county level, and the officers of the local party in reassuring people that we are looking forward to the forthcoming by-election in Beaver ward.

We have an excellent candidate lined up and we want to work hard to serve the community, to listen to their concerns and to make sure that none of those in power is ever allowed to neglect the needs of South Ashford. Norma Smyth, Chair, Ashford Constituency Labour Party

My question is – what the hell are Kent Police up to?

From the over protection of illegal and economic migrants at our borders, down to these problems at local level, law enforcement is failing the hard working, tax paying decent people of this country as it’s easier to punish them by removing the focus of a problem than getting off their blue serge clad backsides to enforce the law and punish the perpetrators.

I suggest that anyone who cares about the lackadaisical policing in this county writes to our new Police and Crime Commissioner to ask what he is going to do to remedy the situation. L D Goddard, Ashford

With regard to the article in last week’s paper Decision To Close Public Toilets Branded ‘Disgusting’, the last time I went in these toilets they were filthy.

This is not down to council cleaners but the way that people use them. I do understand that the council wants to close them as it must be a neverending battle to keep them clean.

I fail to understand why George Galdies would want to use them when he could park in or near the County Square car park with proper disabled facilities and nearer to the shops.

The toilets there are always clean. Why anybody would complain about these toilets being shut is beyond me.

I am sure that if he asked the management at Wetherspoons they would let him use their downstairs toilet.

I have indeed asked the cafe in the High Street if I might use their toilet on occasion as I would not put myself at risk by using the toilets in the car park. J. P Blunt, Kennington.
