mmilehamchappell@thekmgroup.co.uk A husband and wife have launched a new jewellery store in Ashford town centre.

Snap Jewellery opened last Friday at the No.15 unit in Park Mall.

The independent store, owned and run by Gary and Helen Cradock, offers a wide selection of interchangable jewellery to instantly change colours and designs.

Mr Cradock, 47, said: “We have lived in Ashford for many years and have seen how the town’s economic health has grown and developed, which is why we were keen to set up our business here.

“We are delighted to be a part of the local independent businesses in Park Mall and hope our unique jewellery business brings something new and different to Ashford town centre.”

The rings, bracelets and necklaces are created with an interchangable ‘Snap Button’ allowing the user to snap on and off their choice of jewels. The trend has already taken off in other countries, including America.

Mr Cradock continued: “Snap Jewellery allows people to express their individuality and continually customise their accessories in an unlimited number of combinations.

“Accessories are no longer a static design, but a swappable piece that can change with your style.”

Before setting up the shop Mr Cradock was an army chef for 13 years, before working as a cover teacher at Ashford’s John Wallis Academy. After leaving the school three years ago, he worked at the Caldecott Foundation in Smeeth for six months before leaving to start up the new business.

Mrs Cradock, 38, who worked as a business studies teacher at Dover Grammar School for Boys for 10 years, said: “Ultimately, it had always been my goal to practice what I preach.

“Gary’s mum, Jacqueline Cradock, sadly passed away last year.

“She had previously owned three shops when Gary was a child, two of which were in Ashford.

“She was very supportive of our venture and her passing made us determined to reach our goals.”

Cllr Graham Galpin, Ashford Borough Council’s portfolio holder for town centres and business dynamics, said: “Snap Jewellery is another example of an independent retailer bringing something unique to Park Mall.”
