Katy’s hard work pays dividends
A young construction professional has been recognised for being a leader in her field.
Katy Murray of Directline Structures based in Station Road, Ashford, has won the young achiever of the year in the 2016 Constructing Excellence in London and South East Awards.
The 27-year-old, who is the daughter of Rolvenden Parish Council chairman, Duncan Murray, received her award at a hotel in London on June 30.
In a ceremony at the Lancaster attended by more than 560 industry experts, Kate was applauded for her skills in combining design and site management.
Tim Whitehillof award sponsor Project Five said: “There’s no doubt that Katy will be an effective champion for architect-led design and build.”
Katy is a key member of her family’s firm Directline Structures and has successfully combined her project work with final studies and exams for her Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) qualification.
Organisers praised Katy, who has been involved in tender design, planning and site management roles, stating: “Her ability to apply her knowledge of construction to her design work, and vice versa, sets her apart from other architects and contractors.”
Proud father Duncan Murray said: “I put Katy’s name forward for the award in the knowledge of the huge amount of work and energy she has put into the business, at the same time as gaining her full RIBA qualification as an architect.
“My only doubt was that the panel wouldn’t believe just how much responsibility she had taken on.”
He said Katy was making the name for the firm in architectural services, in addition to the engineering and construction side that it is already known for.
