RAIL PAIR HAYES AND RUTLAND HELP KENT TO TROPHY VICTORY
Mo Hayes and Anne Rutland helped Kent ladies record their latest John’s Trophy win with, a 136-97 success over Buckinghamshire at Chesham on Saturday.
The Ashford Rail pair were members of Hythe’s Sue Gurr’s winning rink, 27-9 victors, as the county won all but one of the six.
Hayes and Rutland had a busy weekend, being involved in the Division 4 ladies’ finals at Herne Bay the following day.
They lost 24-10 against Thanet in the pairs, before teaming up with Christine Breeds and Linda Greenhalgh to win the fours, beating Victoria Park 32-14. They now progress to the semi-finals at Milton Regis on Sunday.
Club captain Breeds was awarded her county badge.
Gill Hawkes went out of the Maude Woods competition, beaten 21-19 by Natalie Fox, of Sandwich.
Keith Smith beat Willy Marshall (Betteshanger) 21-10 in the men’s semi-finals at Boughton.
He was due to play Sean Kirby (Ramsgate) in the final at Aylesham last night (Wednesday)
Ian Larkin’s triple, including, Smith and Clive Allen, beat Sandwich 17-9 to reach the finals, but his four featuring Allen, George Coles, and Bob Rand went down 23-8 in the last four at Deal.
In club bowls, Rail beat Betteshanger 118-87 in a six-rink home mixed triples.
Lead Janet Williams, Paul Hunter and skip Gordon Samson were the best rink performers, winning 29-5.
Williams, Dennis Gibbs and skip Tony Mapstone were the top rink, with a 25-6 victory as Rail were 67-29 winners against Cheriton in threerink mixed triples.
Staplecross B won the annual Mermaid League Fling at Tenterden on Sunday.
Sixteen member clubs took part in the six-round competition with Linda Cooper, John Harratt and Terry Rogers the winning triple.
The club’s A team – Emma Cooper, Graham Cooper and Ron Rose were runners-up.
The prizes were presented by Tenterden captain Ray Walker.
Ashford Town beat Lyminge 65-54 in a friendly on Sunday.
Rob Howes, Kay Cannings and skip Ray Hayward were the highest winning rink.
