Tenby a tough challenge

Ashford and District Road Running Club members Daniel and Claire Green made the long trip to Tenby in Pembrokesh­ire to take part in the Long Course Weekend.

Staged over three days, it included a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride and a marathon.

Daniel finished 44th out of 419 finishers, in a time of 11hr 41min 01sec. More than 200 starters failed to complete the toughest of courses.

He completed the swim in 1:25.45, the bike ride in 6:57.49 and the marathon in 3:18.27.

Claire competed in the Half Ironman distance, covering the 1.2-mile swim in 47.00, the 66-mile bike run in 5:17.00 and the half-marathon in 2:14.00.

Dexter Hogben came home 11th in the Hever Castle Aquathlon on Sunday.

He finished the 1.9k swim and 10.5k run in a combined time of 1:54.12

Jon Wells was the first member home in the Bewl 15 on Sunday.

He covered the off-road course around Bewl Water near Tunbridge Wells in 1:51.06 to finish 58th.

Anthony Brown ran a personal best to finish 87th (1:57.11) and was followed home by Rik Holden, 96th in 1:58.40.

Paul Brasington finished 212th (2:11.56), three places ahead of Glenn Holiday (2:12.13), with Rhian Shrimplin 372nd in 2:26.40.

Stu Nunn trimmed over a minute off his personal best, finishing 32nd (50.10) in the Rye Summer Series 10k on Friday evening. Steve Hickman, returning from injury was 51st (55.57) and second in his age category.

Helen Weeden was 58th in 58.11, fourth in her age-group.

Chris Boyce won the latest Ashford parkrun on Saturday, in a time of 18.52.

Robert Carpenter was eighth (20.35), Paul Brasington 12th (21.34) and Terry Sellen 23rd (23.13).

Lisa Bracken was third lady home (24.28), while Simon Jackson claimed a personal best with his time of 24.30.

Other Ashford & District RRC finishers were William Whittingto­n (26.17), Julie Foster (26.17) and debutant Paul Bailey (28.34).

Other parkruns around the country saw Danyel Giles third lady home and first in her age category in a time of 23.40 at Bexley, while John Fidge (24.51) was second in his category and Ann Fidge (29.35) won her age-group as they both competed in the Luton event.
