Diabetes probe

-

People living with diabetes are invited to take part in an investigation into care. The All Party Parliamentary Group for Diabetes hopes to ensure sufferers get the support they need. Email about your dayto-day life, experiences of care and what good care means to Diabetes-APPG@outlook.com with the subject ‘APPG Written Evidence Submission – YOUR NAME’. Daredevils are being invited to take part in a firewalk to raise money for a village Scout group.

The 1st Charing Scout group have organised the event to help raise funds towards the cost of building a new headquarters.

The event involves 20 adult walkers making the firewalk, five of them from Charing Surgery, including senior partner Dr Bill Warrilow.

Rich Lister, former Beaver leader, will serve as the firemaster and The Granary Spa in Great Chart is offering a foot pampering prize to the most appropriately dressed firewalker.

Group Scout leader Terry Lister said: “For children we have a Lego firewalk. Some say it’s more difficult than the original!”

The headquarters building is suffering severe water damage and leaking.

A total of £50,000 is needed for materials and the group will construct the building themselves.

So far they have raised £8,000 and hope to start on the building’s foundations this autumn.

Terry Lister said: “There’s still the possibility of more firewalkers being accepted, while people are welcome to sponsor the existing firewalkers.”

The event starts at 11am on Saturday, July 23, at Charing Scout Hut in Pett Lane.
