Mo Hayes and Anne Rutland head for Leamington Spa next month representi­ng club and county in two national competitio­ns.

The Ashford Rail pair play for Kent in the Johns Trophy, before joining club-mates Linda Greenhalgh, and Christine Breeds in the Fours competitio­n.

Hayes and Rutland were in Sue Gurr’s rink beaten 19-13, the only defeat in the county’s 136-86 victory over Sussex in the Johns Trophy at Sutton on Saturday.

Kent won four and drew the other rink, to earn a place in the national semi-finals on Saturday, August 6.

Hayes, Rutland, Greenhalgh and Breeds are through to the county finals against Milton Regis at Sevenoaks on Sunday week, with both teams representi­ng Kent in the Nationals on Monday, August 8.

Rail’s Keith Smith went out of the Kent County Men’s Unbadged Singles at the quarter-final stage, beaten 21-17 by Carlo Azzopardi, of Bromley Town, at Canterbury on Tuesday.

Smith, Clive Allen and skip Ian Larkin play Bellingham in the County Triples at Halls BC in Dartford today (Thursday).

In club matches, Rail lost 65-63 in a four-rink mixed triples on Sunday.

Pete Jacobson,Tony Playford and skip Jenny Farmer were the best winning rink (25-11).

Hamstreet drew 61-61 in their home friendly against Headcorn.

Skip Dick Baldwin’s rink including Anita Heidi and Gwen Golley were the best performers, winning 17-10.
