United denied by late goals

A late equaliser denied Ashford United victory against Maidstone United on Tuesday night.
The game against the newlypromoted Vanarama National League outfit, which attracted a crowd of 300 plus at Homelands, finished as 2-2 draw.
Two former Stones, new signing Rory Hill, and assistant Ashford manager Shaun Welford netted in the space of 90 seconds as United led 2-0 inside the opening 20 minutes. They held the advantage until substitutes Alex Flisher (81min) and Tom Murphy (87min). earned the visitors a share of the spoils.
Hill volleyed home the opener, before Welford finished off a good move to double the lead.
United pair Micky Phillips and Paul Booth also faced one of their former clubs in another good work-out for player-boss Danny Lye – another ex-Maidstone servant.
Luke Eldridge scored twice for the second weekend running as United beat Ramsgate 3-0 at Homelands on Saturday.
The game was switched to a morning kick-off after the Thanet side’s Southwood pitch had been damaged by foxes.
Youth team striker Eldridge followed up his double in the 5-4 win over Folkestone the previous week, with Hill adding the third.
Fellow new-boys Tom Michelson and Brett Ince were also in the starting line-up, together with Charlie Dickens, back at the club after training with Ryman League, Premier Division side Harlow. Two other youngsters, Brandon Williams and under-18s captain Matthew Kirby, were also involved.
