We won’t forget at election time

It was nice of Cllr Jessamy Blanford to suggest that residents should have a say on the Chilmington development (Have a Say On Estate Now – Or Don’t Complain Later, KE, July 21).

We shall not forget that when we objected to this ghastly waste of agricultural land and the further concreting-over of the once attractive town of Ashford she said that those who objected to the impact on their quality of life and negative impact on the value and saleability of their properties were, as she put it, “middle-class NIMBYs”, a cheap shot from someone who lives in a pleasant village which will have no negative impact on her lifestyle.

Perhaps she could explain the impact of 5,000-plus extra vehicles on those trying to get in and out of Ashford at peak times when it is a nightmare at present and encourages motorists to avoid the bypass and go through the village, to the considerable distress of the villagers of Great Chart.
