Children run up funds for charity

-

Youngsters showed what good sports they were as they ran laps of a field for charity.

Ten children, all on the autistic spectrum, took part in the fundraiser at Sandyacres Sports and Social Club in Sandyhurst Lane, Ashford on Sunday.

The deputy mayor of Ashford, Cllr Winston Michael, also demonstrated his sporting prowess when attending the event as he ran around the field himself, much to the delight of parents and their children.

Cllr Michael handed out certificates and medals to the runners.

More than £500 was raised from the afternoon and organiser Anna Benson, thanked the Sandyacres club for allowing use of its grounds for free.

She said: “All the children were very tired after the run so we had a picnic. It was a lovely day.”

The funds raised will go to ASD Ashford which was set up to support autistic children and their parents.

It has an office in the County Square Shopping Centre and offers drop-in sessions and oneto-one appointments.
