Council chiefs have launched a consultation into plans to slash support available to vulnerable and hard-up residents. The council tax support scheme applies to those in work who come into difficulty with paying their taxes and gives them up to a 90% discount. But now the finance team want to increase the amount those in difficult circumstances could pay, potentially reducing the discount to 80% and cutting support for those who have more than £6,000 in savings.
