Swaffer pushes ahead of rival

-

Matt Swaffer claimed two third places in the latest round of the Toyo Tires BMW Production Class series at Oulton Park to maintain his overall lead in the competition. The Newingreen driver finished behind winner Will Davison and runner-up Matthew Wileman in both races in his first visit to the Cheshire circuit, with his total of 94 points extending his lead over nearest title rival Harry Goodman. Dad and race engineer Roger Swaffer said: “Matt did well and we were pleased with how things went. “The next round is on the GP circuit at Brands Hatch on August Bank Holiday weekend which will be big for us because we don’t want to go to Thruxton with the title not won.” Swaffer was second in qualifying, with Swaffer Snr left unimpressed by the whole session. He said: “It was messy because they allowed a Volkswagon who was competing in another race to take part, only for it to break down early on and see the session red flagged soon after the start. It meant we only had three flying laps in the space of 15 minutes. “Matt went flat out to the first corner in the first race but didn’t quite get there after going on the grass but stuck in to steal third. “He was pushed on the grass in the second race but it was another good performance. “The other good thing was that neither Davision or Wileman are in contention for the title.”
