Woman’s body found in pond
Identity sought by police after grim discovery
The discovery of a woman’s body in a pond near Ashford Cineworld sparked a police investigation.
Officers were called to the pond on the Eureka Leisure Park at 3.50pm on Tuesday after a body was seen in the water.
Several police cars were deployed in response to “concern for the welfare of a person seen in the pond”.
They cordoned off the area near the Travelodge Hotel and began a search of the area, which runs alongside the M20 motorway near junction 9.
Both forensics experts and detectives were at the scene, off Rutherford Road.
Police said that a post mortem was due to take place today (Thursday) to identify the cause of the unidentified woman’s death.
Police have launched an inquiry after a woman’s body was found in a pond near Ashford Cineworld.
Officers were called at 3.50pm on Tuesday to the pond off Rutherford Road, at the Eureka Leisure Park, where a body was seen in the water.
Several police cars were called to the scene in response to “concern for the welfare of a person seen in the pond”.
They cordoned off the area behind the Travelodge Hotel and began a search of the area, which runs alongside the M20 near junction 9 and is out of view from the main entrance road into the Eureka Park.
Both forensics experts and detectives were in attendance, and the woman’s body was pulled from the water and placed in an ambulance.
Forensics officers photographed the scene, while detectives questioned staff at the hotel and restaurants at Eureka Park.
A police spokesman confirmed that a post mortem was set to take place today (Thursday) to identify the cause of the woman’s death. The spokesman said that the identity of the woman was not known, and there was no awareness of her next of kin.
They were not yet able to reveal how old the woman might have been.
Police also said it was too early to state whether the death was being treated as suspicious or if there would be an appeal for witnesses.
