CCTV shows man keying car – but no arrest made

A shocking video has been posted on Facebook, showing a person keying an Audi car.

The CCTV footage, filmed from a home in Ashford, shows a man approach the car, walk towards the front passenger’s side and apparently swipe the vehicle with a key. The unnamed woman who owns the car said: “I was absolutely shocked.”

The incident happened nearly three weeks ago, but in one 24-hour period it was viewed more than 43,000 times.

The incident was reported to the police.

Officers have ordered the man to pay for the damage, but he has not been arrested.

The car owner said: “I have been left with a damaged car and he has got away with it. “It makes me feel quite deflated. “I’m glad I have found out who it is. But if it was a young person they would have been arrested there and then.”

The video has been shared more than 930 times and has almost 200 comments.

The woman says she has no idea why her car has allegedly been targeted by this man.

She said: “We have never done anything to him. He has done it for no reason.”

A police spokesman said: “We are investigat­ing an incident of criminal damage at (an address) in Ashford at 2.45pm on Friday, July 29.

“It is reported a man caused damage to a car. The suspect has been identified and interviewe­d in relation to the matter.

“Inquiries are ongoing regarding the incident and the victim has been informed of its progress.”
