The defeat extends the gap between the sides to 12 points with three games left.

Town looked on course to set a challenging target, having been 190-2 at one stage but the innings faltered. Ashford lost seven wickets for only 43 to close on 233-9.

Liam Tegg hit 64, with Jack Richardson (48) and Tim Hambridge (41) supporting him well, before all three fell when well set.

Overseas signing Saul Anstey claimed an early success before Nonington skipper Jamie Burrett led the reply with 57, as the visitors got home with two overs to spare.

Gary Sutton’s hundred proved to be in a losing cause as Ashford 2nds went down by eight wickets at Offham.

Sutton made 122 out of a total of 263-6, but an unbeaten 113 by Neil Willis proved the matchwinning knock as Offham ended on 264-2.
