Pain is worth the gain for student midwives

-

Student midwives embarked on a challenging bike ride across the Ashford area at the weekend to raise money for a maternity bereavement suite at the William Harvey Hospital.

Sami Joyce, Lucy Dowle, Tanya Saunders, Louisa Gogarty, Stacey Parker and her daughter Kaydee and step-daughter Maddy took part.

The team completed the 13-mile ride in 3hrs 45mins.

Stacey Parker, 30 from Maidstone, said: “We are still recovering!

“We did struggle. It was a challenge. I think what kept us going was knowing what we were doing it for.

“The pain we are feeling will go away. The pain of losing a child will never go away.”

Stacey added: “The William Harvey are going to build a separate room for mums away from the ward, which would be more homely and comfy.

“New parents will be able to spend time with their babies if they wish to, make memories, make hand and footprints or take photos.”

The bike ride raised £575 through their Just Giving page leading to a current total of £1,035.
