The town has lost its heart

-

Well said, Graham Sutherland (Council Ignores The Views Of People, KE, August 11), I couldn’t have put it better myself.

My home town is unrecognisable as the place I grew up. Of course we have to have progress but Ashford has been ruined.

The town is no longer a pleasurable place to walk around.

Many people I speak to now only go into town to visit the bank, the post office and maybe one or two shops – it’s all pretty uninspiring.

There seem to be projects for the youngsters, which is good, but where are the facilities for older people? The Joe Fagg pop-in centre looks to be finished, so why not move it into BHS temporarily, instead of sending pensioners on several bus rides out of town to the Stanhope area?

Gosh no – that would be unthinkable – we need to rent it out again quickly at an enormous price to pay for more silly artworks.

Where is the art in Ashford by the way? We have no theatre, and the council has evicted the Ashford Youth Theatre from their premises.

Here’s a thought – how about moving
