Resident going it alone in bid to make road safer
A Kennington resident has launched a ‘one man crusade’ to combat the traffic problems in his area and has issued a plea to the county council to remove the speed bumps.
Cecil Horn, from Nettlefield, said he believes his road has become a rat run because drivers refuse to use nearby Ulley Road and The Street because of their hurdles.
He said: “I am sure many drivers would have, over the last 10 years, paid an expensive bill for broken suspension springs.
“I think the removal of those humps would get some drivers back on a road which was built to take main road traffic.
“All I’m asking for is a fairer distribution of the traffic.”
Mr Horn explained other options have been exhausted and no right turn signs and marked out boxes would not solve the traffic issues in Nettlefield.
He said removing the humps in nearby roads is a last resort.
He added: “It is absolutely dangerously wrong to allow A-road traffic up through a family estate with children around. Cecil Horn, inset, is on a one-man crusade to reduce the number of vehicles using Nettlefield, Kennington, as a rat run, above
“Some of those children are four-year-olds that aren’t even as big as the lorry’s wheels that go by three feet away.
“I hope the residents in Ulley Road and The Street will not object to taking a few more vehicles.
“By doing so they will be mak- ing life a little safer for the children of Nettlefield.
“I am a super optimist and I guess monumentally naive.”
