Everyone’s a winner at Olympic fun day

-

Rio came to Ashford when HomeStart Ashford & District held a summer Olympics day.

The event, which was staged last Wednesday on the Bromley Green playing field in South Willesborough, featured a variety of Olympic-themed games and challenges.

Home-Start offers friendship and support through its homevisiting service, with trained volunteers visiting families for three hours a week.

Volunteers can assist with day- to-day activities as well as being a listening ear. Home-Start also has a group just for dads and male carers with children under eight called Chill with Dad.

The Olympics day included traditional challenges such as eggand-spoon, sack and three-legged races.

Cllr Jenny Webb presented all the children with medals and ice lollies before all the families attending enjoyed a picnic.

Group worker Helen Brown said: “It was really important to bring everyone together in the summer and celebrate Rio.

“The holidays can be a stressful time, and it was great to see everyone having such a lovely time.

“We would like to thank Cllr Webb for all her support and also the Kennington summer fayre committee for their donation, which meant we were able to purchase a gazebo for events like this.”
